What is Co-Enzyme Q10?
Co-enzyme
Q10 is a compound naturally produced by your body that generates energy in every
cell. It also helps protect cells against oxidative stress.
Why take a Co-Enzyme Q10 supplement?
The highest concentration of CoQ10 is found in organs that require the most energy like the heart, liver, kidneys and lungs. While the body can produce CoQ10 naturally, this production tends to decrease with age. You can therefore increase the intake through diet (from foods like fatty fish, pork, beef, chicken, lentils, soybeans, peanuts, broccoli and cauliflower) and through supplementation.
CoQ10 is available in two forms, ubiquinone and ubiquinol. Studies show either is acceptable and no significant difference between the two was found regarding its absorption. The ubiquinone form is easily converted to the ubiquinol form in the body.
CoQ10 is ‘fat loving’ which means it is better absorbed with fats so it should be taken with a meal.
